Class 7 Science Curiosity | ChAPTER- 2 | Exploring Substances: Acidic, Basic & NeutraI |CBSE | KVS Chapter Summary – Key Points Substances are classified into three types based on their chemical nature: Acidic (e.g., lemon juice, vinegar) Basic (e.g., soap solution, baking soda) Neutral (e.g., water, salt solution) Indicators are special substances that change colour in acidic or basic solutions. Used to identify the nature of a substance. Natural Indicators include: Litmus (from lichens): Blue to red → Acid Red to blue → Base Red rose extract: Red in acid, green in base Turmeric: Turns red in base; no change in acid/neutral Onion/Vanilla (olfactory indicators): Smell changes with acids/bases Taste and feel clues: Acids taste sour (like lemon) Bases taste bitter and feel slippery (like soap) But taste tests should not be done in experiments Neutralisation reaction: Acid + Base → Salt + Water + Heat Used in many daily life scenarios Examples of neutralisation in daily life: Ant bite (acid) treated with baking soda (base) Acidic soil treated with lime (base) Industrial waste (acidic) treated with base before disposal Namaste! 🙏 Welcome to our channel!
