LIVE CATHOLIC 9AM |TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR C| August 24, 2025

TODAY’S REFLECTION In the Gospel Jesus says something interesting about being first and being last. It is in response to his questioner who asks, “Will those who are saved be few?” Jesus neither confirms nor denies it. In answer, as an analogy he uses a sporting competition where there is a first place and a last place. He is talking about a spiritual race, a race we want to win but not to be in the first position. The race of life is an uphill race. If there were no difficulties, there would be no victories. To win it without a struggle is perhaps to win it without honour. If there is nothing to struggle for, there will be nothing to achieve. It is a race not meant for medals but for the crown of glory. What he does say is that salvation is not guaranteed for anyone.
