Rejecting the World’s Desires "1 John 2:16 declares, “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” This verse offers a clear warning: the values and temptations of the world are not aligned with the will of God. The world offers pleasures and pride, but they are fleeting and corrupting. True believers are called to resist these desires and live according to the Spirit, separating themselves from the lure of worldly passions. This truth is echoed throughout Scripture: 1. Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” 2. James 4:4 – “Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” 3. Matthew 6:24 – “You cannot serve both God and money.” 4. Galatians 5:24 – “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” 5. Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” 6. 1 Timothy 6:10 – “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” 7. Luke 12:15 – “Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” 8. 1 Peter 2:11 – “Abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.” 9. Matthew 13:22 – “The worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word.” 10. Titus 2:12 – “It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions.” 11.
