READING 1: 1 Samuel 1:1-8 RESP: Psalm 115(116):12-19 GOSPEL: Mark 1:14-20 Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time, Memorial of Saint Bernard of Corleone, Religious. Today’s liturgy ushers us into Ordinary Time, a season that invites us to contemplate the daily unfolding of God’s saving work in ordinary human experiences. Having celebrated the great mysteries of Christ’s birth and manifestation, the Church now turns our attention to discipleship—how God calls, forms, and sustains His people in the concrete realities of life. The Word of God today speaks to human longing, trust in God amid trials, and the decisive call to follow the Lord without delay. It reminds us that God enters our struggles, listens to the cries of faithful hearts, and calls ordinary men and women to participate in His saving mission. This day also bears the Memorial of Saint Bernard of Corleone, a humble religious whose life powerfully embodies the Gospel call to conversion and discipleship. Born in 1605 in Corleone, Sicily, Bernard grew up with a fiery temper and was involved in acts of violence in his youth. After a life-changing encounter with God, he experienced deep remorse and sought a new path. Rejected at first because of his past, he persevered and was eventually admitted into the Capuchin Franciscan Order. As a Capuchin brother, Saint Bernard lived a life of profound humility, penance, and charity. He was known for his simplicity, obedience, intense prayer life, and extraordinary kindness toward the poor and the sick. Though unlearned, he became a powerful witness to God’s mercy, performing works of healing and reconciliation. His life stands as a testimony that no one is beyond God’s grace and that true holiness is born of repentance, perseverance, and total surrender to God’s call. Together, the liturgy of the Word and the witness of Saint Bernard of Corleone invite us to reflect on our own response to God’s voice—whether spoken in moments of suffering, in the quiet of prayer, or in the simple call to “follow me” in our daily lives. ************** Reflection: My dear friends in Christ, today we contemplate the Baptism of the Lord, a moment that reveals who Jesus truly is and who we are called to be. When Jesus steps into the waters of the Jordan, He does not do so because He needs purification, but to stand in solidarity with us. In humility, He enters our human condition and opens for us the way to new life. The voice of the Father and the descent of the Spirit remind us that Jesus is the Beloved Son. At the same time, this moment points to our own baptism. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we too have been claimed as God’s children, loved and sent on a mission. This feast invites us to remember that baptism is not just a past event, but a living call. Each day, we are invited to live as beloved sons and daughters, reflecting Christ’s humility, obedience, and love in our daily lives. May we renew our commitment to live out our baptism faithfully, allowing the Spirit to guide our steps and shape our hearts. Amen. Copyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Like Hannah, we may face silent pain and unanswered questions, yet God invites us to trust Him with our hearts. In the Gospel, Jesus calls ordinary people and transforms their lives through obedience and faith. A true story is told of Saint Bernard of Corleone who, after a life marked by anger, encountered God’s mercy and chose radical conversion. By responding humbly to God’s call, he became a man of peace and holiness. Today, Christ still calls us where we are. If we listen and respond with trust, our lives too can be changed. / friarnnannaonahofmcap #love #nothingimposibleinthisworld #dothingsyoudontwanttodo #gospelmusic #dere #detraction #detractor #devotional #music #musician
