Astronomers and skywatchers are preparing for a rare celestial event as the full "wolf moon" on January 3 is set to appear larger and brighter than usual. This supermoon will be the last of its kind until November 2026, offering a unique opportunity to observe the moon at its closest approach to Earth, reported the National Geographic. A supermoon occurs when the moon's full phase occurs at its closest point to Earth, perigee. During this time, the moon appears approximately 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than its farthest and dimmest version, a micromoon. This year's New Year's supermoon will reach its maximum brightness on January 3rd at approximately 5 am EST.
